Neil Smith Era 1986 - 1991
Hi folks! Neil Smith here! This web page is long overdue and in the coming months it will contain not only the history of my time in the band STEVIE STILETTO (as best I can recollect it anyway), but will also include digital versions of all the studio recordings I made with the band as well as rare and live recordings, pictures, fun facts and anything else I think might belong here.
To start things off, I have posted quick and dirty MP3s of all the songs from the album SMELL THE SOCK so that anyone who might have been waiting for something they can play on a more modern device can download and do so. I plan to offer very clean and high quality versions very soon so please forgive the dirty record needle pops and such that you are sure to hear in these (I used an uncleaned vinyl LP copy which had been open and played for years just to get it posted quickly). There are also a few small tidbits from the album which I purposely excluded partly because of the obvious record pops and partly because I feel strongly that there should be some incentive and reward to owning the original LP (which I actually have in stock and you can purchase from me for the low, low price of $20 plus shipping and handling. Drop me a line at steviestiletto@neil-smith.com if interested.)
ALSO PLEASE NOTE: At the time these songs were recorded, we were a bunch of young meatheads hailing from mostly redneck, rural and southern states and political correctness was just beginning to sweep the nation - and quite honestly caught us by surprise. This album for the most part was basically us thumbing our nose at the over-sensitivy of the time that has unfortunately sustained to this day. Being much older and perhaps wiser, it is conceivable that if we were to make this album today, we may or may not do things a bit differently. Nonetheless, for better or for worse - this is our history, who we were at the time, the album we made, and if you think you might get any form of an apology about what is contained in these recordings, well you're not going to find one here, so get over it, shut the fuck up, put your sensitivies aside, download and enjoy!
